The Strategy of Story: Why Story Works and How You Can Make It Work For You

Hello Reader Are your consulting stories working for you or working against you? I use stories to educate and connect with the right people. But storytelling isn’t my area of expertise. So I asked Nora Barry, a communication expert, story strategist, and author of The Structure of Story, what would she recommend to independent consultants who want to know how to create a better story. In my latest interview, Nora and I discuss why storytelling is such a powerful yet underused tool and why so many consultants struggle and fail to tell grabbing stories. Nora explained the neuroscience of storytelling, what makes a story effective, and the importance of learning how to use story structure to communicate that one core message you want your audience to grasp. We even discussed the hot topic of the day, AI, and using it for storytelling. She reminded me of Plato’s quote "Those who tell the stories rule society" and how great storytellers shape how people think about you and learn to trust you. But here is the key take away:
Don’t wait until you “need a story” to learn how to tell one.
Learn how to use the story structure format and build three or four stories that reflect your value, are in your voice, and speak directly to your ideal client.
