Is Trying to Find Your Ideal Client Like Looking for Waldo?

Hello Reader,

I didn’t grow up with Waldo but I do remember the first time I played “Where’s Waldo?” I was perusing the new book release section at the local library and the cover of a “Where’s Waldo?” book grabbed my attention. Being curious lead to me trying to find Waldo in one of the pictures.

When it comes to explaining how to find your ideal client, I often think of Waldo. It can be easy to find the little guy with glasses who is dressed in a red and white striped polo shirt and has a beanie hat with a red pom-pom on his head, particularly when there are only a few people in the picture. But if there are hundreds of people in the picture you may need to really search to find Waldo.

Finding your ideal client is like looking for Waldo. If you are in a crowd of hundreds of people, with many who do not meet your ideal client profile, it can be hard to find the perfect ideal clients. But if you focus on a small crowd of people who you believe fit your ideal client profile, it is easier to connect or find that perfect person, a person who is interested in how you can help them.

What that means is instead of casting a wide net and hunting for your ideal client, focus your time and efforts on a few key places, places where you can find people who meet your ideal client profile and they can find you.

Not sure how to do that? Here are six common channels with places and people that you can investigate and an easy exercise to help you find your ideal client.

This week’s question…
I recommend at least once a year a consultant, regardless as to how long they have been in business, review where they are spending their time networking and connecting with people who fit their ideal client profile.
So, let me ask you. When was the last time you took a hard look at where you are spending your networking time?
